Lee crossed the floor to reach for the keys. His fingers brushed hers and sent ripples of electricity up her arm. The memory of his lips on hers hit her like a truck, and pain flashed through her chest. Gemma clenched her teeth and held still.

Lee did the same, then closed his hand around the keys and lifted his gaze to hers. Seconds rolled past, punctuated only by the sound of traffic outside.

She wanted, all at once, to throw her arms around him and ask how he was doing. To tell him she missed him. That there was a hole in her life shaped just like him.
